Women Who Inspire Me

I’ve been feeling really inspired by some powerful, bad-ass women lately which I think is important since women don’t get enough credit in this world. I’ve always considered myself a feminist but wasn’t too involved in women’s issues until this past year. Women’s rights are continuously being threatened and it’s important that we unite to prevent this from happening.

Some of the women I admire are:

michelle obama

Michelle Obama for 2020? During the 8 years she served as FLOTUS she championed for children and women’s rights and did so gracefully. In 2015 the Obamas created Let Girls Learn to help adolescent girls around the world gain a quality eduction. Education was a passion project for the Obamas during their tenure and rightfully so as they are both well educated.  Michelle is the most educated First Lady, with two Ivy League degrees, graduating cum laude from Princeton and later Harvard Law School.

Through her campaign Let’s Move!, she helped combat childhood obesity by getting children to eat healthier and be more active. Michelle is also co-founder of Joining Forces, an initiative that gives vets and their families the tools to succeed through employment, education and health services.

In addition to her many achievements in and out of the White House, Michelle’s ability to stay vigilant and take the high road when politics turned ugly will be part of her lasting legacy.

Emma Watson is doing a lot. In addition to being a super talented actress she is the UN Women’s Global Goodwill Ambassador and has used her platform to advocate for both girls and women’s rights around the world. Emma’s also served as an advocate for the HeForShe campaign in promoting gender equality. She has also worked to promote fair trade and organic clothing and served as an ambassador for Camfed International, a movement to educate girls in rural Africa. Last year Emma created a feminist book club, Our Shared Self, to continue learning about equality and women’s issues. This year she created The Press Tour , an Instagram account that chronicles her eco-friendly and sustainable looks that she wears when she is doing press.

Gal Gadot is an Israeli actress, model, singer, martial artist, and former soldier. She had the badass role as Wonder Woman and completely killed it. This Jewish beauty is a self proclaimed feminist and once said that “whoever is not a feminist is a sexist”. Agreed.

Eileen Kelly might be a modern day Carrie Bradshaw. She’s a sex educator and founder of killerandasweetthang, an account for millennials to openly discuss sex and other coming of age issues that weren’t properly talked about in your high school sex ed class. Eileen uses the digital age to explore her sexuality but better yet, let readers know that it is okay to be sexual. Take a scroll through her feed and you’ll find the raw, unfiltered content that weren’t in your textbooks.
